Emmanuel Garcia

Emmanuel Garcia seems to be the only Mets prospect that is currently playing well. Garcia is currently batting .316 with 4 doubles, a triple, 9 runs, and 7 stolen bases in just 10 games for the Waikiki Beach Boysin the Hawaii Winter League. The 20 year old, Canadian born Garcia was signed as non drafted free agent by the Mets in 2004. In 2005 he was honored as a Topps GCL Player of the Month and GCL Post-Season All-Star and APP Post-Season All-Star in 2006.

Scorpions start season 0-6

The Scottsdale Scorpions have started off the season with a 6 game loosing streak. The Mets have prospects Mike Nickeas, Caleb Stewart, Mike Carp, Eddie Kunz, Carlos Muniz, Pitcher Bostick, and Eddie Camacho.

Milledge Deserves It!

Going into the off-season the starting right fielding job should go to Lastings Milledge. Last year Green was terrible in spring training and Milledge played well but they went with Greens experience over Milledges youth. I have heard a lot of talk about trading Milledge or obtaining a free agent guy like Fukudome from Japan. In my opinion, it would not be a wise move trading Milledge. If the Mets trade for Santana or Willis I would rather see the Mets trade Gomez or Fernando Martinez. You will hear a lot about how much potential Martinez has as a 19 year old in AA which could make him very good trade bait. Milledge is the most ready out between him and Gomez. He has been waiting for the starting right field job and for the most part has shown he is ready.

The Mets lacked heart and passion over the final weeks of the season. If you look at the way the results of the playoffs this year the teams with the most heart has moved like the Indians and Rockies while teams like the Yankees and Cubs lost easily. Milledge would help bring the heart and swagger the 2008 Mets need to make the playoffs and win a World Series. So all I can hope for is that the Mets give Milledge the chance he has been waiting for an has certainly earned.

Lack of Success for Kunz

After going 3-1 with a 3.05 era and 10 saves for Oregon State, Mets 2007 First Round Draft Pick Eddie Kunz has yet to pitch well in the minor league level. Kuntz started the season in A Brooklyn. He pitched in 12 games going 0-1 with a 6.75 era, 8 walks, and 9 strikeouts. Kuntz is now pitching for the Scottsdale Scorpions in the Arizona Fall League. In his only game thus far Kuntz received the loss after going 1 inning while allowing 4 runs. One positive note is Eddie has yet to allow a home run in Brooklyn and Scottsdale.

Hector Pellot

Hector Pellot was the New York Mets 2 pick (fourth round) in the 2005 amateur baseball draft. Pellot, 20, spent most of his season in A Savannah batting .274 with 7 home runs, 34 rbis, 52 runs, and 33 stolen bases in 114 games. He was then called up at the end of the season and batted .304 with 1 home run, 3 rbis, 3 runs, and 2 stolen bases in 6 games. Pellot was a 2007 South Atlantic League All-Star. Hector is currently playing second base for the Waikiki Beach Boys in the Hawaii Winter Baseball League. The Puerto Rico native has a .269 batting average in 6 games along with 5 rbis, 2 runs, a double, and a stolen base. I would keep an eye on his stolen bases. Pellot does not have a very good stolen base percentage. He was caught 17 times with 33 stolen bases for A Savannah, caught 1 time with A St. Lucie in just 2 tries, and has also been caught once so far for the Beach Boys in just 3 tries.

Adkins released; Heath Bell trade not so good

The Mets have granted free agency to Pitcher Jon Adkins, Pitcher Lino Urdaneta and Outfielder Ricky Ledee according to Matt Eddy of Baseball America.

John Adkins was traded to the Mets last off season for Pitcher Royce Ring and Pitcher Heath Bell to the Padres for Adkins and Outfielder Ben Johnson.

Adkins was 2-4 with 5 saves, 44 strikeouts, and a 3.99 era in 48 games for AAA New Orleans. Johnson was injured for a large chunk of the season. He played just 53 games with a .271 average and just 2 home runs and 12 rbis. Johnson is now 26 and so far has not lived up to his potential. In 2005 he was a Baseball America Triple-A All-Star. He has shown some pop in his bat before and at the time of the trade I thought it was a steal with Johnsons potential and the lack of success of Bell. Now Bell is nasty for the padres and the Mets just have a aging, slumping, injured Ben Johnson.

Ranked #3

John Manuel of Baseball America ranked Mets OF prospect Fernando Martinez #3 on the Eastern League Prospect list. Martinez batted .271 with 4 HR and 21 RBIs in 236 at-bats with Double-A Binghamton this season.

About Time Phillies

The Phillies were swept by the Colorado Rockies Saturday night ending their season and shuting them up. I am so relived knowing the Phillies are now out of the playoffs and their season is over. Next year I want revenge so the Mets better play better against the Phills and take them down.

Yankee Fans Rule!

My friend invited me to the Yankees game last night so of course I went. I was hoping to see the disappointed faces of Yankee fans after they got swept by the Indians. Instead they had a comeback win and the Yankee fans were cheering and being arrogant as always. The drunk by behind me saw me sitting down after the Yankees scored some runs in the 6th inning and said told me to stand up. I then began messing with him standing up and asking, Hey a-rod has a .000 average is this his first at bat or hey posada is batting .100 that’s really good right. The drunk Yankees fan then says to me, “Do you want some cheesecake or a pounding?” I then say “Well I do love cheesecake.” He then will not sit down and the usher comes over to tell him to sit. I egg him on telling him not to sit and this is America. He got bored and then left. Yankees fans are pretty cool huh… What really sucked is I woke up in the middle of the night feeling sick. I went to the bathroom and threw up. I got food poisoning from the Yankee hot dogs. Wow, do I love the New York Yankees fans and food!

Darling on TBS

So I turn on the Cubs/D-Backs game and I hear a voice that sounds familliar. It is the sweat sound of Ron Darling. At first I was not sure if it was Ron just because he is usually on SNY. I jump on the computer and I realize USA Today reported many of the details today, with Darling joining Dick Stockton for the Cubs-Diamondbacks series and Bob Brenly. Ahh, if only the Mets were still playing...

AFL Starts Monday; Winter Leagues

The Arizona Fall League kicks off Tuesday. The Mets have some of their better prospects in this league. The players are Catcher Mike Nickeas,, Outfielder Caleb Stewart, First Baseman Mike Carp, Pitcher Eddie Kunz, Pitcher Carlos Muniz, Pitcher Adam Bostick, and Pitcher Eddie Camacho will play for the Scottsdale Scorpions in this year’s Arizona Fall League.

Pitcher Jose de la Torre, First Baseman Nick Evans, Second baseman Emmanuel Garcia, second baseman Hector Pellot and third baseman Dan Murphy will all play on the Waikiki Beach Boys of the Hawaii Winter Baseball League.

Go Rockies

The Colorado Rockies have won their last 14 of 15 games including a 1 game tiebreak playoff last night against the Padres. Now they face off against our enemy, the Phillies. The Phils crushed all of our post season dreams with a dramatic September surge and slump by the Mets. With the Mets not in the playoffs I feel all Mets fans should root for the Rockies. The Rockies have had a magical September with almost all home grown talent and have a total salary of 53,274,000. That pretty impressive compared the Mets salary of 120,555,819. All Mets fans should root for this team to take down the Phillies and shut up their arrogant fans. This team has the heart and determination to win and frankly deserves to win after an incredible September. So please Rockies, just take down the Phillies.

Willie Will Stay

Mets GM Omar Minaya announced that Willie Randolph will stay as manager of the Mets for next season. As I have already talked about I disagree with this move and believe Omar's decision is based on his relationship with Willie rather than his ability to manage which has been shown as ineffective over the last few weeks.

How Much Money Lost?

Accoriding to CNN Money the Mets lost 15 million or more in postseason revenue. The New York Mets lost more than a playoff spot, their pride and probably some of their fan base this past week. The franchise lost millions of dollars, while the players themselves lost at least $20,000 apiece, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Hoovers Quote

On Saturday, Paul Hoover broke up John Maines bid for a no-hitter in the 8th inning with 2 outs. Before Yesterdays game, I saw Hoover at the game. I got close to the field and then said to him, "Hey Hoover, pretty lucky hit yesterday." He then turned around, walked closer to me and said "hey, it's better to be lucky then be good."

Willie Mays Hayes Syndrome

In the movie Major League, outfielder Willie Mays Hayes always tried to go for the home run instead of putting the ball on the ground and using his speed to get hits. In the movie, the coaches changed Hayes and got him to hit grounders and liners instead of fly balls. He then became the catalyst on the team and helped the Indians make it to the ALCS.

(Do this ^ )
Jose Reyes suffers from Willie Mays Hayes Syndrome. Jose has been hitting the ball in the air almost every at-bat. The Mets suffered and ended up loosing the division in part because of the sloppy play of Reyes. After batting .307 before the all star break with 4 home runs, 9 triples, and 35 rbis. Since the all star break Jose had an average of .251 with 8 home runs, 3 triples, and 22 rbis. In the month of september Reyes was awful batting .205 with 2 home runs, 8 rbis, and had just 5 stolen bases while being thrown out 4 times. Jose needs to learn that in order to be successful he needs to hit line drives and not home runs. He needs to get singles and steal, not hit triples every time. He needs to be the catalyst he was all of last year and that he was in the first half of the season if the Mets want to win and if he wants the boo's to stop.
