The more I see 21 year old Carlos Gomez on the Mets, the more it reminds me of Jose Reyes a couple of years ago. Gomez started out red hot; in his first three major league games Outfielder Carlos Gomez was 4-for-9 with two doubles, two RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base. When Reyes was at the beginning of his professional career he chased every pitch out of the strike zone. Off speed pitches made him look completely overmatched. Today, Carlos Gomez broke up an 0 for his last 18 stretch with a hit today. Over that horrendous stretch everyone saw how overmatched Gomez was. He looked foolish on the breaking stuff a lot like Reyes did a few years back. Reyes chased bad pitches out of the strike zone early on and Gomez has shown the same. Both are extremely quick which makes them even more alike. Hopefully Gomez develops into a player like Reyes (with more power being 6 foot 4, 195 pounds). The next week will be a good opportunity for Gomez to show how he reacts after going hitless in 18 at bats, and hopefully Alou will be back next week.
