Jason Vargas was scratched from his scheduled start for Triple-A New Orleans on Sunday a signal he could be called up to start Tuesday. Oliver Perez, who was scheduled to start Tuesday's game against Colorado, is dealing with lower-back stiffness and is unlikely to be able to pitch. Vargas gave up five runs in seven innings the Cubs on May 17 in his only other start for the Mets.
