37 year old Jose Valentin was batting against Brett Tomko in the fourth inning in yesterdays game when he fouled a 2-1 pitch directly into his leg. He was removed immediately, with Ruben Gotay completing his at-bat. Valentin will most likely be out for the rest of the year.
With this being said, Ruben Gotay will now be the starting second baseman! In 45 games Gotay is batting .345 with 4 home runs, 2 stolen bases, 16 rbis, and 14 runs. Personally I wanted Gotay to consistently play over Valentin and now it will happen, its just sad to see someone that helped the Mets so much last season be out for the rest of the season.
