Claudio Vargas has been designated for assignment, and will be replaced by pitcher Carlos Muniz. I am a big fan of Muniz and am very glad to see him back up. Vargas was pitching extremely poorly late so I definitely agree with this move. The only thing I worry about is does Manuel keep Muniz up if he pitches well because Willie kept sending him down even though he was pitching well in order to make room for the guy coming back from injury...

Martinez back from injury
In his first game back from a hamstring injury, 19–year-old Fernando Martinez was 1 for 3 with a strike out as the designated hitter on Sunday for the Single-A GCL Mets.
Davis Signed
The Mets have agreed to terms with first-round pick Ike Davis for $1.5 million dollars. Davis was interviewed by Kevin Burqhart of SNY while in New York and talked about his previous experiences in New York and the type of player he is.

Mets Sign Two
The New York Mets announced that they have signed shortstop Reese Havens and righthanded pitcher Brad Holt and assigned both to Single-A Brooklyn of the New York-Penn League.
Havens was the club's 22nd overall selection in the first round of the 2008 Major League Baseball's First Year Player Draft from the University of South Carolina while Holt was the 33rd overall pick in the first round compensation round from the University of North Carolina-Wilmington.
Havens, 21, hit .359 (89-248), with 76 runs scored, 13 doubles, 18 home runs and 57 RBI in 63 games during his junior campaign with the Gamecocks this season. Following the year, in which he led South Carolina to a 40-23 record and an NCAA Regional appearance.
Holt finished his junior campaign at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington with an 11-1 record and a 3.18 ERA (33 earned runs / 93.1 innings) in 15 starts during the 2008 season. In 93.1 innings, he allowed 78 hits, of which only 17 went for extra-bases, while walking 36 and striking out 95. He also tossed the first one-hitter since 1992 for the Seahawks, when he struck out seven without a walk as Wilmington defeated Northeastern 11-1 on April 5th.
I really like Reese and I am quite excited to see him play. The Mets are really low on second baseman in the minors. They have two average prospects in Hector Pellot and Emanuel Garcia but Havens is much better than either of them.

Muniz Demoted
In last night's blowout loss to the Giants, Carlos Muniz had the worst outing of his young career. He had yet to allow a run this season before allowing 4 runs in 1.2 innings. Due to this outing and roster moves he was sent down to AAA to make room for Pedro Martinez. I hope and believe he will be back with the Mets at some point this season.
